Helvetica Film

Just imagine. Hanging out with 140 Bohemians in the hellacool Circle Cinema, a free T-shirt draped over your shoulder, drinking some fine beverages and talking about eMacs, iPhones, Epson printers, OS9, Fogo de Chao, dogs, and the artistic way of life.

Then sitting among those same friends watching people talk about a 50-year-old font for an hour and a half. And getting teary-eyed over it.

Yep, we’re freaks. If you haven’t already joined us, it’s never too late. Four great chances left this year!

HammerPress

This highly renowned little printing company in Kansas City creates “various hand printed ephemera” with a slightly irreverent approach to the traditional craft of letterpress. Their work has appeared in logolounge, Typography 25 and 26, Masters of Poster Design and more. Don’t miss them:

James Farr Rocks the House

A record crowd kicked off the 2007-2008 ADCT season with more than 150 turning out to hear James Farr talk about xombies, ruby slippers and meeting Matt Groening. Not to mention showing the tenth and final installment of his extremely popular Xombie web cartoon that he developed five years ago while working a day job at Geek Rescue. If you missed James, you missed also seeing his visual interpretations of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion. Those alone were worth the cost of admission.

iPhone Winner Swears She Won Fair and Square

The ever-ebullient Carla Hammer won the iPhone drawing at the ADCT September meeting. Running from the back of the Little Theatre auditorium waving her winning ticket, Carla was all smiles when she accepted the special little AT&T baggie. The popular Unisource rep had three earned entries: her paid membership, a piece of original art, and the donation of that to Visual Aid.

> See all of the entries on Flickr

ADCT also gave away three Xombie graphic novels and a handful of Xombie comic books, graciously donated by our favorite cartoonist, James Farr.

That’s right. Joining ADCT gets you a chance to win an iPhone. Drawing will be at the first meeting Sept. 20. You must be present to win. You don’t want to miss James Farr, anyway. So join ADCT and mark it down.

New Location This Year

ADCT will hold meetings this year in one of Tulsa’s most eclectic locations: Tulsa Little Theatre. Built in 1932, this neighborhood theater has been renovated with an elevated stage, quality audio/video and theater seating. Everyone should be able to see our speakers and their work. Find it at 1511 South Delaware. Just don’t park in the church lot across the street or be prepared to face the wrath of God.

2007-2008 Event Schedule

** Check for updates on www.artdirectorsoftulsa.org

Show Us Your Art and get another chance at the iPhone

Use the enclosed sheet (from the Membership PDF) to create whatever you like. Draw, paint, cut, fold, glue a photo on it, do whatever your muse says to do. Just do it on this sheet.

Keep it legal, keep it clean (or at least artful). Since we would like to put a slideshow of the artwork on the web, please submit a digital photograph of your entry (10MB or less!) to info@artdirectorsoftulsa.org by Sept. 20 at noon. All submissions will be featured on the ADCT website.

All digital submissions will earn an extra entry into the iPhone giveaway at the Sept. 20 James Farr meeting. All originals donated to the same meeting will earn a third entry in the drawing. Yes, that’s right. You could have three entries in the drawing.

Must be a member of ADCT to enter. Must be present to win.
