WELCOME BACK to our 40th year

It’s that time of year again. Time to put up the shorts and flip-flops and get serious again. Well… at least to rejoin your creative community as a member of one of America’s oldest independent Art Directors Clubs. Shorts and flip-flops always welcome. See you in September back at TLT, no matter what you’re wearing. And no, you’re not crazy. That really is Jay Shuster from PIXAR in November. Score.

New this year: fill out your membership applications online or download a printable pdf.

And That Concludes Our Show

It’s been a great year, from the opening session with doodles, an iPhone giveaway and James Farr looking like Where’s Waldo and regaling us with tales of talking to Steven Spielberg from the dog food aisle at Wal-Mart. All the way through to Graphex 39 in the high-class digs of Gilcrease with Hosty Duo making music and fun of us.

Thanks again to all of our sponsors this year: Unisource, ResourceOne, Quik Print, RoArk, and Western Printing. We truly couldn’t do it without you.

Next year we intend to make your membership even more valuable, with a fresh slate of speakers, the return of Visual Aid in October, and whatever else we can think of between now and September.

Have a great summer until we spam you again with a shameless membership solicitation.

Presenting: Hammerpress, Feb. 21st, 2008

Hammerpress was founded in 1994 by Brady Vest after attending the Kansas City Art Institute. With a fascination of letterpress and a completely motorless Chandler & Price Platen Press, he began printing CD and LP packages for poor and penniless art school rock ‘n roll friends.

Now, with several presses (all of which have motors, thankfully) and hundreds of drawers of lead type, Hammerpress operates with a small crew creating everything from wedding invitations to custom artwork for national restaurant chains, CD packaging, corporate identity, posters and art prints, as well as an ever-growing line of letterpress stationery products. Don’t miss your chance to see them all.

Helvetica Film

Just imagine. Hanging out with 140 Bohemians in the hellacool Circle Cinema, a free T-shirt draped over your shoulder, drinking some fine beverages and talking about eMacs, iPhones, Epson printers, OS9, Fogo de Chao, dogs, and the artistic way of life.

Then sitting among those same friends watching people talk about a 50-year-old font for an hour and a half. And getting teary-eyed over it.

Yep, we’re freaks. If you haven’t already joined us, it’s never too late. Four great chances left this year!

HammerPress

This highly renowned little printing company in Kansas City creates “various hand printed ephemera” with a slightly irreverent approach to the traditional craft of letterpress. Their work has appeared in logolounge, Typography 25 and 26, Masters of Poster Design and more. Don’t miss them:
