Guided by his travels abroad, Duane developed an appreciation for a diverse visual aesthetic, reflecting influences from many different cultural environments. Today Duane is a principal in Black Ops Studio: A design studio. He is also the founder of Left Field Project.

Art Directors Club of Tulsa Presents

SkyPage

Bay Area-born, Los Angeles-based SkyPage spent his formative years painting hobby trains and model cars using Testors-brand enamel paints and plastic-bristled brushes. This was the starting point from which his interest in and fascination with paint-based materials emerged, but coupled with the discovery of non-soluble ink mediums and other indelible marking tools, his appetite grew.

Graffiti quickly became the language; windows, lockers, rooftops and other exterior surfaces worked as media to create dialog; public transit acted as a catalyst and time served as structure. However, long gone are the days of stationary stores and hobby shops—perhaps one day penmanship, too, shall be obsolete. But so long as there is development, there will be new surfaces, new walls, new heights, and with that comes the creation of new marks.

SkyPage’s work has graced the pages of Mass Appeal, Big Time, Arkitip, and Transworld. He has developed logos and artwork for Stussy, Nike, PROS N’ CONS, Brooklyn Basements, and a roster of others.

The son of a car designer, Jay’s childhood bedroom was a nest of blueprints, drawings, posters, machines, and models of all things connected with mechanized transportation. But it wasn’t until Jay saw Star Wars that he connected his interests to a possible future in the film industry. That desire initially took him to Lucasfilm Ltd., where he designed vehicles and environments for the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Jay arrived at Pixar in 2002 as a concept designer on Cars , where he translated Director John Lasseter’s ideas into characters and environments. Jay worked as a character designer on Disney•Pixar’s latest release, WALL•E. Jay graduated in 1993 from the Industrial Design program at College for Creative Studies in Detroit. He currently resides in El Cerrito, California.

Please help us give him a warm Tulsa welcome. Michael Wallis, renowned author of Route 66: The Mother Road and the voice of the sheriff in Cars, will introduce Jay. You will not want to miss this very special evening.

What’s different this time
