December Round-Up

It’s the end of another year, time for reflection and resolutions. It’s also time for our end of month post, where we look back at the news from December, and look forward to events coming up in January. Be sure to comment with any events we may have missed!

ADCT Guest Speaker, Kevin Stark – January 17th

We’re back to our regular speaker schedule with a multi-talented designer. Kevin Stark describes himself as “a cartoonist, portrait painter, sculptor, toy designer, musician, photographer, producer, and entrepreneur,” and is known for establishing the Toy & Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. He has designed a multitude of toy lines, including the Toxic Crusaders, The Mask, The Simpsons, The Pink Panther, and perhaps the most iconic retro toy, Stretch Armstrong. You won’t want to miss this presentation. 6:30 at Living Arts.

Other January Events

First Friday Art Crawl – January 4th, 6 pm. The Brady District’s monthly event continues. Galleries in the area open for the public to explore, including ongoing demonstrations at the Tulsa Glassblowing School.

Processed: Silkscreen prints by Schmickle, Yang & Live4This – Opens Friday, January 4th at 6pm. Runs through January 24th at Living Arts. Graphic design meets fine arts in these silkscreen pieces, where artists aim to “use silk screen printing to echo the mass-production processes that are commonly seen on store shelves.”

TyPros Pub Night – January 8th, 5:30 at Bar 46. Tulsa’s Young Professionals convene once again.

Philbrook Second Saturday – January 12th. Enjoy free Museum admission and family friendly, hands-on art-making projects on the second Saturday of each month.

Bust a Rut! Artist Block no More! with Autumn Brown - Saturday, January 12th, 1:00-3:00 pm. Concept/OK artist Autumn Brown guides participants through the process of drawing their way out of a creative rut. Cost: $40.00 (workshop designed for adults, all materials included)

PechaKucha – January 12, 7 pm. Living Arts hosts their third PechaKucha, one of our favorite art events around (besides ADCT events, of course).
